With about 100,000 square feet of gallery space, it can be tough to integrate the most up-to-date scholarship on our changing planet. In the second phase of the museum's We are Nature initiative, we tested methods for interpreting the interconnectivity of humans and nature in a time when we are rapidly reshaping Earth's systems.Â
Temporary exhibition: 1,500 square ft exhibition hub plus additional labels and object displays throughout the museum's galleries

Humans are part of the natural world and cannot exist in its absence.
Visitors will think about human-induced planetary changes and activities that mitigate and adapt to these changes
Visitors will understand the museum as a place where they can have conversations about complex challenges facing us as stewards of the earth
Visitors can provide feedback that will shape future work, letting us know what questions and issues are most important to them
Developing this exhibition included working with local artists and documentarians so that the voices of the exhibition were not only from the museum, but from visitors and other community members.
Talking about climate change can feel so overwhelming. How can I really make any difference? It was important to include diverse examples of people living and working in the area to take meaningful steps toward climate justice. Photos, organization profiles, and videos bring the work to life in the exhibition hub.

Labels throughout the museum draw attention to an object or detail that's always present and connect it to today's issues of human-caused climate change.
